Now concerning things offered to idols: We know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffs up, but love edifies.
I was taught years ago that I needed the knowledge in the Bible. After all it says that we perish for lack of knowledge. So I needed to read all the books I could find and of course my Bible to obtain this knowledge.
Then I met Christians that could quote chapter and verse. They didn’t need Google. They just pulled it out of their deep knowledge of the Word. It did not matter how much book knowledge they had, they couldn’t calm the storm. They could not lay hands on the sick and see them recover. Some even said God did not do that anymore; that the gifts died out with the apostles. There was no evidence of Holy Spirit in their lives.
I began to realize that the knowledge was not book knowledge at all. It was experiential knowledge. It was the knowledge we gain as we step out and do His Word. It was knowledge from Holy Spirit as we laid hands on the sick and experienced the miraculous; blind eyes opened, fever leaving, headaches gone, arms and legs grown out, deaf ears opening, pain removed, and more.
All that we know because of our studying without Holy Spirit allows us to come across as being close to Him as we have the right verse to speak. We become puffed up because of what we know. Others pat us on the back for what we know.
But it is not about all we know. It is all about who we are in Christ.
