The Name

Philippians 2:5, 9-11 NIV
In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus. God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

When someone comes knocking we want to be sure we know who they are before we let them into our home or answer their questions. We are careful to check their identification; at least we should be. If it is a policeman, we expect a badge or uniform we recognize.

Their identification gives them the authority to enter or speak with us. In the matter at hand they have a higher place than we do and we acknowledge that.

God wants us to have the mindset of Jesus in our relationships with other believers. He wants us to treat them as we expect to be treated; as we would expect Jesus to treat us. God even gave Jesus the highest lace and the name above all names. And that name is Jesus.

So when we pray asking for anything we can ask in the name of Jesus and expect an answer. He did not say to pray in "your name" or in "your son's name" or in "Christ's name". He said to pray in the name of Jesus, the name above all names.
